Direct Mail Marketing Branches Out
October 7, 2010Direct mail marketing has been used by businesses to get their promotional message in the hands of a targeted audience for decades. Throughout the years direct mail marketing and grown and changed and branched out from the traditional postal direct mail marketing forum.
With the invention of the telephone, direct mail marketing branched out a bit as telemarketing or marketing over the telephone became a widely used forum. Similar to direct mail marketing in its approach, this type of marketing made consumers have to make a choice right then and there with heavy convincing and prodding from the operator. Over the years this practice became an annoyance to consumers and the federal enacted a “Do Not Call Act” banning telemarketers from contacting direct mail marketing contacts that had signed up to the list.
Computers and the age of the internet also changed direct mail marketing and caused it to branch out on many directions. First, email marketing became a common place forum for businesses that used direct mail marketing to reach out to new consumers via the internet. More recently the social media marketing component of direct mail marketing has emerged completely changing the commonplace practices that have made direct mail marketing what it is.
With all the changes to direct mail marketing over the years and the new branches that have formed it still continues to remain the most used forum for marketing your business due to its direct approach, easy measurability, and high return.
